The city’s top watchdog bit back at Bill de Blasio Monday, charging in a letter that the mayor and top aides regularly pressured the Department of Investigation to drop probes damaging to City Hall and describing the mayor in particular as vindictive and at times unhinged in his fury.
Mark Peters, who was fired from his post as DOI Commissioner by de Blasio last week, made the damning accusations in a no-holds-barred letter to the City Council that questioned the mayor’s rationale for his termination.
In the firing, de Blasio cited an independent report that found Peters had exceeded his authority in trying to fold an independent schools investigator into DOI.
